One of the things I admire about invetsigators is when they are open to learn and honest about their knowledge and intentions. Todd is from an a new group here in Australia and is very open about willing to learn and to also pass his knowledge onto others as well. It is a great opportunity to see how and why new groups starts up and what makes them tick. This is Todd from Greater Sydney Paranormal Investigations.
Where in the world are you from?
We are from the Hills District and North Western Sydney NSW.
How did you get started in the paranormal field?
It was by accident! I always had a fascination for the paranormal and UFO’s.
I work in the technology industry, I was watching Australia’s most haunted one evening and noticed some of the equipment they use. Items like EMF detectors & thermal images etc.
I then googled paranormal investigators and WSPR came up.
I arranged a call and met with Craig Powell.
What was meant to be a 30min sales call turned into a 3hr chat. I was so naïve I thought they only did “that sort of stuff on TV”.
What is it that draws you to the paranormal?
The unknown! Trying to capture evidence, the feelings and the rush !
Do any members of your family research/investigate the paranormal as
well? (Does it run in the family?)
My team is mainly family members !
My younger sister, my nephew and my youngest son.
We also have a mother and daughter in the team who have abilities and also a new member who is a sensitive.
What is your area of expertise in the paranormal?
Mainly the equipment used on investigations and trying to debunk phenomenon.
What do you believe a ‘ghost’ is? Do you believe in ghosts/spirits?
I’m sceptical ! if anything I believe most of the times they have “unfinished business”.
But also that something may have occurred to leave a energy stain in certain places.
All theory of course, however I have heard, felt and seen things I cant explain !
What approach do you take in researching/investigating the paranormal?
Spiritual, technical, theoretical etc
I mainly use technical with a mix of spiritual as we have 2 psychics in the team. I also have Aboriginal blood in me!
How did you start your paranormal group?
I was talking with my younger sister mid last year about starting my own team as she was interested but didn’t have the cash to go on “tours or hunts”. I started it to give everyone the opportunity to experience investigating without having to pay $100-150 every time they wanted to go on a “investigation”.
What are the benefits of being a part of a paranormal group?
Being part of a team ! Having each other’s back when thing get weird !
What sets your group apart from all the others out in the field?
We are mainly a family team and specialise in private cases.
Having said that we are currently in negotiations with some larger sites ! Stay Tuned !
How often do you investigate out in the field?
Usually when needed by private clients.
Being our first year, we are just finding our feet.
What sort of equipment do you like to use on an investigation?
I always use laser grid, PSB7, DVR’s K2 (as an indication)
We also use old music, different sounds from certain era’s.
I am currently doing some experiments with fog machines and laser grid combo’s.
Do you research before an investigation, or do you go in blind?
Always research first!
Do you work on private cases?
Yes! That’s what we specialise in
How do you pick the locations you investigate?
Research history, locations, local legends and with private residences we are usually asked to go to a location.
If you retired from the field tomorrow, what legacy would you want to be
remembered for? (Achievement, Tours, theory, experiments, attitude etc)
Honesty, integrity and no bull shit !
What advice would you give to someone starting out in the field?
If you don’t have a thick skin, don’t bother!
There are a lot of nasty people in this industry who will try to undermine you, take credit for your work, lie about you and try and cause trouble through jealousy!
If you could educate your peers or pass on knowledge, what would it be?
Not everything is paranormal !
Always debunk first !
